I don’t know what it is, but I just can’t say ‘no’ to the girl.
Anyway: it is my understanding that the function of this blog is to keep everyone informed as to my goings-on during this very exciting time of my life. So, let’s catch you up to speed.
After graduating with my BS (literally) in May of 2007, I was graciously hired by my former academic institution as an Administrative Secretary. I have since then been promoted to Executive Secretary, and seem to have a pretty good handle on things around the office. Having a BS degree really comes in handy here.
Since I work at the College, I might as well get something out of it, right? As of last night, I have officially completed half of my credit hours toward my Literacy 5-12 Master’s degree. At this point, I plan to graduate by next December.
During this past semester I’ve been mentoring with Help Yourself Academy, a partnership the College has with Pine Hills Elementary. Last week my mentee, Monique, presented her rap about saving the rainforest at the Winter Celebration we held. While definitely one of my most proud teaching experiences, I was even more elated when she gave me a completed puzzle taped up to be hung in my room; the puzzle is of a glittery faerie princess and unicorn, gazing at the rainbow in the distant landscape. This could be a metaphor for my life at the moment.
For, as some of you may know, I have been dating a dream-boat of a boy, Mister Mikey. He is undoubtedly the uni-horned stallion I have always dreamed of. We moved in together this past October, and I’ve never been happier! I can only hope that this princess and her ride will be looking at rainbows for years to come. Wow, that was really gay.
Hey, I never said this was a Politically Correct blog. Onward!
Okay so enough with the frilly boring stuff. What am I doing these days? I’m pretty much a burnout, I have an addiction to various tube-uler productions (The Office, The Wire, Freaks and Geeks, etc.), but have been attempting to gain some nerd-cred as of late. That’s right people. If its nerdy, I’m into it. I obsess over about 10 different webcomics, and REALLY want to start one of my own, but lack any direction or motivation (they go hand in hand). So, any ideas? Please send them my way.
But what really got my dweeb blood pumping was, of course, the epic Saga of Twilight. Hey, don’t judge. Believe you me, I too once tried to escape the clutches of those morbid black book covers. Thus, it was to no avail. Again, I’m blaming this one on Shylah. Bitch made me borrow her books, and since then I haven’t been the same. I guess when I delved into the vampire arena, I was accepting myself for the nerd that I am. Since then, I’ve been studying the great art of Magic, The Gathering (using pre-1997 decks only. Yeah, I know, I’m an OG), Dungeons and Dragons, and have been craving movies such as Darkon (seriously, Netflix this) and Braveheart. Also, I’ve eaten 5 bags of Cheetos in the past week and a half, but don’t worry, I haven’t gotten into WoW or Starcraft yet. YET. Might break out the old Ages of Empires though, for Christmas break. The elusive Wii can kiss my behind.
Okay kids! I think that’s all the self reflective bull I can muster for the day. Stay tuned…it only gets worse from here. MUUWAHAHA. KIK. PMP.
